Sega sees huge popularity outside of Japan which is great, but another reason for why other countries don’t get physical items is likely due to minimize shipping costs internationally.

Outside of the Japan I’m sure they’re making massive amounts of money, but in Japan it’s the opposite. In Japan the fanbase is more critical of the games and will give a more accurate review on them, but pretty much overall the audience there is small which is why Sega is giving their home community more rewards for the same game to get more fans. They’ll take anything Sonic related as their parents would buy it for them because it’s Sonic, regardless of what they’re paying for. This includes extra pixels for several bucks more and you also have to realize that a quarter, if not half the Sonic fanbase are kids. Outside of Japan (USA, Latin America, Europe, etc.), the fanbase will take ANYTHING sonic related even if it sucks. Sega kinda knows what they’re aiming for here. Add to Sonic Team’s track record on how their recent games are, it makes sense that the fanbase would be very small in the country where he originated from. Sonic is only more popular outside of Japan because he’s seen as a more Westernized character. Reason why they’re promoting all this in Japan is because the Sonic audience there isn’t very big. The items include Koko keychains, acrylic stands of Sonic, Amy, Knuckles and Tails, physical art book iirc, and several other things that also include the digital stuff. The Chao Gardens added hours of playtime and replayability to already enjoyable games, so them coming to a new game would only make that game better.I’m not sure if you are aware but the Japanese audience will be getting actual physical items if they preorder or buy the deluxe edition. Players can interact with Chao in various ways, including feeding, petting, and playing with them. The garden provides a place for Chao to live, play, and grow. Whatever reason SEGA had for taking the feature away, fans hope with every new game that they bring the feature back - and with Sonic Frontiers advertising open worlds, first seen with the adventure hubs of Sonic Adventure, fans are tentatively hopeful. In Sonic Adventure 2, players needed to play both storylines in order to lock the Chao Garden's full potential. Players were rewarded for playing the game and exploring, further encouraging players to return for more play sessions. And in Sonic Adventure, there were three Chao Eggs hidden in the hub worlds for players to find and bring to the Chao Gardens. Rare Chao Eggs could be bought at higher levels for rings. The Chao Gardens would also reward players for completing story missions and earning emblems, as the more emblems the player had, the rarer items would be unlocked in the Black Market. Sonic Frontiers doesn’t limit you to a small, carefully curated prix fixe menu of things to try. In having the stat-boosting items in the levels, the Chao Gardens encourage players to keep playing long after they finish the story and earn the emblems. Chaos Drives drop at random from GUN robots, but players looking to boost certain stats will quickly learn which colors correspond to which stats and angle for the ones they need. Animals that boost the swimming stat, for example, are found in the beach and aquatic levels, while bats and ghost dogs - which provide an interesting legless aesthetic, as Chao take on the traits of the animals they interact with - are found in the spooky mountain levels. This feedback loop also encouraged playing the different levels, as specific animals are found on specific levels. Players who got addicted to the Chao Garden started paying stricter attention to what the various robot enemies dropped so they could better tend to their Chao. Once a player sees where their Chao needs improvement, they can run out and hunt for the animal or Drive they need. The higher these stats, the easier the Chao can navigate the various obstacles of the races.

Chao have several different stats, which animals add and subtract to and Chaos Drives add to.

Boosting a Chao's stats is paramount when it comes to the accompanying minigames, Chao Racing and Chao Karate.
